Build Your Own Siri in 5 Minutes

A 5-minute build with a 5-minute upsell block. Designed for a standing-room crowd with phones, no laptops, no prior experience. Total facilitator footprint: 10–12 minutes.

The scan target

This is the only link participants need. It opens the guided builder, handles Google sign-in, and returns them to the exact step they left.

Learning objectives

  1. 1.Explain, in plain language, what an AI agent is and what a system prompt does.
  2. 2.Write a system prompt that gives an agent an identity, a job and guardrails.
  3. 3.Pick a voice and hold a real spoken conversation with the agent they built.
  4. 4.Name three real tasks their agent could take off their plate this week.
  5. 5.Know the next module: connecting Gmail, Calendar and Drive to that agent.

Run of show

0:00 – 0:45

Hook — the pager story

Say: Hold up the SkyPager theme on screen. "Thirty years ago this was the cutting edge of being reachable. Today you're going to build something that answers for you."

Room: Nothing on phones yet. Eyes up.

0:45 – 1:15

Scan the code

Say: Push the QR full-screen. Everyone scans, signs in with Google, lands on the guided builder.

Room: Phones out. Confirm the room sees Step 1 of 5.

1:15 – 2:00

Name it and choose a voice type

Say: "Name it something you'll actually say out loud. This is your assistant, not a product."

Room: Step 1: agent name + male/female voice. Default voice is auto-selected.

2:00 – 3:15

Tell it what to do

Say: Read two hot cues aloud, then let them tap one and edit it. Explain that the agent only knows what they tell it.

Room: Step 2: pick a hot cue or type their own job description.

3:15 – 4:00

Watch the system prompt appear

Say: "This is the part people pay for. Read it — that's your agent's brain, in English, and you can edit any line."

Room: Step 3: AI-generated prompt shown on screen, editable.

4:00 – 5:00

Talk to it

Say: Countdown, everyone taps Talk at once. The agent introduces itself and asks how it can help.

Room: Step 4: live voice call with a sound wave. Room gets loud — let it.

5:00 – 10:00

Level up (optional block)

Say: Walk the add-ons: Gmail triage, Calendar booking, Drive knowledge, live avatar. Ask who wants which.

Room: Step 5: add-on cards. Collect emails for Module 2 access.

Check for understanding (60 seconds)

  • ›Show me your agent's name and read its first line out loud.
  • ›Point to the sentence in your prompt that keeps it from making things up.
  • ›Tell me one task you'd hand it tomorrow morning.

Materials & room setup

  • •Projector or large screen for the QR code and the run-of-show.
  • •Room Wi-Fi (voice needs ~1 Mbps per participant) and a fallback hotspot.
  • •Earbuds encouraged — 30 phones talking at once is loud by design.
  • •Printed QR cards for table drops and the hallway.
  • •Facilitator laptop signed in to the back office for live troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting card

Camera won't open the link
Type the short URL manually; it's printed under the QR.
Google sign-in loops
Ask them to open the link in Safari/Chrome, not the in-app browser.
No sound on the call
Silent switch off, volume up, then tap Talk again — mic permission prompt appears once.
Prompt feels generic
Have them add one specific fact: hours, city, price, or who they serve.

What comes next

Module 2 connects the agent to Gmail, Google Calendar and Drive so it can triage mail, book time and answer from real documents. Module 3 adds a live avatar and a shareable review link so participants can demo their agent to family, clients or a classroom.
